Mabwell (Shanghai) sponsors the 2020 Tongji New Year’s Concert hosted by Tongji University Alumni Association and Tongji University Education Development Foundation that will be held on January 1, 2020. The concert will be performed by Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and College of Arts & Media of Tongji University in the Concert Hall of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

In 2013, as instructed by the central government, Tongji University paired up with Yunlong County in Yunnan Province for poverty alleviation. In 2018, Tongji University Yunlong Development Fund was formally established at the Tongji New Year’s Concert with a total amount of 520,000 yuan raised from alumni in the form of tickets. This sum and any from follow-up fundraisings were all used in human settlements reconstruction projects in Yong’an Village of Yunlong County.

Similarly, all the proceeds of ticket-selling from 2020 New Year Concert will also go to the Yunlong Development Fund to finance the development of education, medical and industrial sectors and infrastructure, to lift Yunlong County out of poverty at an early date and contribute to the national battle against poverty.

This New Year Concert is an occasion for love and art. Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, formerly the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, is now a professional symphony orchestra and one of the best in China. The 1907 Chamber Choir of College of Arts & Media, Tongji University is a professional choir founded in 2018 with students majoring in music performance, professors from the university and alumni as its members. It has been invited to perform at many major occasions, winning wide accolade in the field. For the 2020 concert, the famous conductor Xieyang Chen is invited to perform. Mr. Chen went to Shanghai Conservatory of Music to learn conducting under professor Xiaotong Huang in 1960 and has become one of the most influential conductors in China.
